Road Trip — France
Lighthouse #73 (2007)
-
This photograph was taken near the Île de Tatihou, in Normandy, France. The lighthouse stands as a calm marker at the edge of the harbour, while small boats cross the pale water with deliberate rhythm. In the foreground, abandoned shellfish structures reveal the presence of traditional viveiros de marisco, exposed by the tide and shaped by labour and time. The sea reflects the sky, dissolving the horizon and softening distance. Nothing rushes here. Movement remains measured, guided by tides rather than clocks. The image observes how human activity adapts to coastal cycles, where fishing, navigation, and aquaculture coexist. The lighthouse does not dominate the scene; it listens. This photograph records a landscape organised by water.
