Lighthouse #79 (2014)

  • Rising defiantly against the impetuous waves of the Atlantic, the Felgueiras Lighthouse is an imposing granite sentinel at the mouth of the Douro River. Its hexagonal tower, approximately ten metres high, had its construction begun in 1790 and officially became a lighthouse in 1886. This photograph captures a moment of powerful waves, when enormous walls of white foam erupt behind the historic structure, engulfing it in the fury of the ocean. Now an emblematic tourist attraction, the composition highlights the stark contrast between the solid stone and the chaotic energy of the sea. It serves as a powerful reminder of the delicate balance between human architecture and the relentless forces of nature.
