Rebuilding Memories / Landscape and Nature
Low tide #71 (2009)
-
As the tide recedes, it reveals a vast, surreal landscape where the Atlantic gives way to miles of perfectly flat sandy surface stretching to the horizon. This photograph attempts to capture the dramatic transition, where once there was water, now we traverse a expanse of sandy ground. The composition highlights the dark, organic textures of the coastline, a space frequently used by locals during low tide for harvesting seafood. However, one must walk carefully across this flat expanse, as the ground occasionally gives way due to treacherous quicksand, and the tide is known to return with dangerous speed, rapidly reclaiming the bay. Under a cloud-laden sky, the soft sunlight creates an atmosphere of profound tranquillity in this stunning area of Brittany.
