Places to Remember - Isle of Skye
Eilean Donan Castle #88 (2012)
-
Built in the thirteenth century on a small island where three Highland lochs meet, Eilean Donan Castle stands as one of Scotland’s most recognisable landmarks. The fortress played an important role in defending the region until forces destroyed it during the Jacobite conflicts of 1719. After lying in ruins for nearly two centuries, restorers rebuilt the castle in the early twentieth century. Surrounded by mountains and calm waters, it offers one of the most iconic landscapes in the Scottish Highlands and remains one of the country’s most photographed locations.
We recommend visiting our "Places to Remember/Isle of Skye" gallery, where we share details of our visits in 2012 and 2014 to the Isle of Skye, Inner Hebrides. -
