Palafitic Pier #66 (2013)

  • Captured in Carrasqueira, on the Sado River estuary, this photograph highlights the unique Palafitic Pier. Built with irregular wooden stilts between the 1950s and 1960s, this architectural landmark offers a vital refuge for local fishing activities. The composition follows the rhythmic, zigzag lines of the pier, which is among the most photogenic locations in the region. In addition to its practical function, the pier serves as an excellent spot for birdwatching, where the calm waters attract diverse species. The soft, golden light accentuates the weathered textures of the wood and the skeletal geometry of the structures against the horizon.
