Three Ways of Travelling

ROAD TRIP — Portugal

Garry Winogrand, for example, […] found that within the rectangle of this viewfinder, he could freeze vignettes of life as he saw it or, rather, as his camera saw it. It might sound like Cartier-Bresson, but in truth, his aims were very different:
I photograph to find out what the world looks like in a photograph.”

⋯⋯⋯

There are still countless roads, places, and experiences waiting ahead.
Each episode becomes part of a journey shaped by landscapes, people, memory, and movement.
What stories and places will we encounter along the way?

Continuing from Coimbra towards Caminha, near the Spanish border, this second stage follows the Portuguese Atlantic coast through places such as Mira, Porto, Matosinhos, Póvoa de Varzim and Viana do Castelo.
As in the first stage, the route is not defined solely by distance or destination. Each kilometre reveals new landscapes, changing light, traces of local history and the everyday rhythms of communities shaped by their relationship with the Atlantic Ocean.
Along this section of the journey, coastal roads, harbours, fishing towns and urban waterfronts become part of an ongoing visual diary. Photography and video continue to document not only the places visited, but also the small encounters, observations and moments that emerge between one location and the next.
Lighthouses appear repeatedly throughout the route, serving both as landmarks and as symbols of movement, orientation and continuity. Their presence accompanies the journey northwards as the expedition gradually advances across Europe. Each stage adds a new layer to the project, expanding a growing archive of landscapes, people, memory and experience gathered along the road
