Planning a route of this scale is, first and foremost, a way of inhabiting places through thought. Long before the body moves through space, the mind has already traversed latitudes, measured distances on the scale of the map, and imagined the incidence of light upon territories that, for now, are merely toponyms and coordinates on a sheet of paper. There is a very particular density to this time of waiting: the time in which the project takes shape in theory, in readings, and in the definition of the gaze.

At this stage, the archive begins to build itself in the invisible. Each reading on the history of a community, each reflection on the mutation of the European landscape, and each methodological note serves to calibrate the observation device that we will carry with us. It is not a matter of fixing a rigid script for what we will find, but rather of cultivating a sensitivity that allows us to recognise the unexpected when it manifests itself. Planning does not annul the unexpected; it prepares us for it.

This productive immobility is the true laboratory of the expedition. It is within it that concepts are trialled, artistic and philosophical references are confronted, and the structure of this open-ended narrative is drawn. To look at the route linking Cabo da Roca to the North Cape, at this moment, is to look at a working hypothesis — a continuous line awaiting friction with reality to fragment and transform into lived experience.

The time preceding departure is not a void or a mere countdown; it is the conceptual foundation of everything that will follow. The journey, in truth, has already begun in writing and in interrogation. Physical movement will be but the natural consequence of this thought that refuses to remain static.

A Viagem do Pensamento

Planear uma rota desta escala é, antes de mais, uma forma de habitar os lugares pelo pensamento. Muito antes do corpo se deslocar no espaço, a mente já percorreu as latitudes, já mediu as distâncias na escala do mapa e já imaginou a incidência da luz sobre territórios que, por agora, são apenas topónimos e coordenadas numa folha de papel. Há uma densidade muito particular neste tempo de espera: o tempo em que o projecto ganha corpo na teoria, nas leituras e na definição do olhar.

Nesta etapa, o arquivo começa a construir-se no invisível. Cada leitura sobre a história de uma comunidade, cada reflexão sobre a mutação da paisagem europeia e cada nota metodológica servem para calibrar o dispositivo de observação que levaremos connosco. Não se trata de fixar um guião rígido para o que iremos encontrar, mas sim de cultivar uma sensibilidade que nos permita reconhecer o imprevisto quando ele se manifestar. O planeamento não anula o inesperado; prepara-nos para ele.

Esta imobilidade produtiva é o verdadeiro laboratório da expedição. É nela que se ensaiam os conceitos, que se confrontam as referências artísticas e filosóficas e que se desenha a estrutura desta narrativa em aberto. Olhar para a rota que une o Cabo da Roca ao Cabo Norte, neste momento, é olhar para uma hipótese de trabalho — uma linha contínua que aguarda a fricção com a realidade para se fragmentar e transformar em experiência vivida.

O tempo que antecede a partida não é um vazio ou uma mera contagem decrescente; é a fundação conceptual de tudo o que se seguirá. A viagem, na verdade, já começou na escrita e na interrogação. O movimento físico será apenas a consequência natural deste pensamento que se recusa a ficar estático.
